The Artist

Caitlin Barnes.

Caitlin is a contemporary mosaic artist based in New Orleans and the Washington, D.C. area. She came to art through an unconventional path, a career in business and marketing, and built her practice on her own, one piece of glass at a time.

Why mosaic?

From a distance, you see the whole. Move closer, and you start to notice the individual pieces: their shapes, their edges, the way light catches one differently than the one beside it.

When I make a piece, I'm not interested in disguising the fact that it's made of fragments. I want you to see them.

"The cuts don't have to disappear for the image to become whole."
